The Gedächtniskirche or Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is the symbolic center of West-Berlin. The only building on the square that was spared by the bombing and deliberately preserved as a part ruin, it nowadays serves as a war memorial and museum. It is located in Berlin-Charlottenburg on Breitscheidplatz at the start of the busy shopping district, which includes the Tauentzienstrasse and Ku’damm – the biggest and most important shopping street in Berlin.
