The best way to start your stroll is at the imposing St. Nikolai Church, situated on Reformationsplatz in the old center of Spandau. Its foundation walls date back to the 13th century, while the actual church dates back to the 14th century. In 1539, it became the starting point for the Reformation in Berlin and Brandenburg, when the Elector Joachim II decreed the Gothic brick church to be the Reformation Church of the Brandenburg March. A market church for businessmen between Havel and Spree rivers, it’s been open to the public for more than 600 years.
